Baikal is called a 'Sacred Sea'. We have no doubt that it is. But have we lost our ability to understand this concept? We also have no doubt that, by our thoughtless, arrogant and greedy behaviour, in the space of less than one human lifetime, we can cause irreparable destruction to its fragile ecosystems that have taken 25 million years to evolve! We all must regain our wisdom and our willpower to act, if we are not to lose this phenomenal treasure.
Unfortunately, here, we can only take a brief and distant glance at the lake, though we would like to convey for everyone something of its wonder, and the anxiety we feel for its future.
